Here are quick answers to a few questions we are often asked about our denture care service. If you don't find what you are looking for, feel free to call us on 03 5223 3332 anytime, we are happy to assist.
The cost of a complete or partial denture depends on the type of denture you need and want. All dentures are not created equal, if you look for the lowest price, remember you'll get what you pay for. At your initial consultation, you will be provided with a quote before any further treatment is provided.
Dentures don't last forever. Dentures usually last between 5 to 7 years and need to be relined every 1 to 2 years. Over time, dentures become worn and don't fit as well, so it's important to reline them regularly. The better you follow your denture care instructions, the longer your replacement teeth will last.
If you notice your dentures are hurting, you need to contact the clinic and arrange an appointment. Usually, when you are first issued with new dentures you may develop some sore spots. To rectify these issues, leave the dentures in your mouth for as long as possible before you come in for your appointment. When you come in for the appointment, we can then see what is causing the problem and fix these issues with slight adjustments.
At first, it will affect your ability to eat. As with anything new it will take time to perfect it. Don't be hard on yourself as it will take time. It can be a little uncomfortable while adjusting and it is a good idea to practice with soft, small pieces of food.
Cleaning your dentures daily with a non-abrasive cleaner and a soft-bristled brush will help to minimise the build-up of plaque and stains. Abrasives in toothpaste can cause microscopic scratches that allow bacteria and stains to attach to the denture more readily. We recommend that you clean your dentures over a sink with some water in it or a folded towel in case they are dropped. In addition to caring for your dentures, taking care of your mouth is also important.
Existing dentures can be relined or rebased to obtain a proper fit, usually on the same day. Our dental prosthetist can diagnose whether this is a viable option for you.
